The MCL Honors the US Army 1st Air Cavalry
The Marine Corps League’s 4th Annual Heroes Among Us Speaker Series – 1st Air Cavalry Night – Guest of Honor – 1st Lt Gary McArthur, US Army, RVN. Pensacola, Fla. – The Cpl. J.R. Spears Detachment of the Marine Corps League announces its 4th Annual – Heroes Among Us Speaker Series – 1st Lt. Air Cavalry Night – scheduled for 25 August 2016. The MCL intends to honor all the members of the US Army’s famed 1st Air Cavalry Division, the most decorated unit which operated in the Republic of Vietnam. The Guest of Honor is 1st LT Gary McArthur, US Army, RVN; Silver Star Gary McArthur is a true Pensacola Native and a graduate of the University of West Florida. After joining the US Army in 1968 he attended Officer Candidates School, Airborne training and Recon school. As a 2nd Lt. McArthur served as a platoon commander in combat in the Republic of Vietnam from Oct 1969 – October 1970. He participated in various operations along the Cambodian border and Fire Base operations during his time in country. After returning home McArthur left the US Army to return to civilian life. He married and raised a family in the local area and directed operations in a local bread business. 1st Lt. Gary McArthur represents a long tradition of "citizen soldiers” who have defended the American Republic since 1775. Let’s honor the valor and dedication to duty of these "citizen soldiers” who have responded to the call for more than 200 years. 1st Lt. McArthur’s personal awards for valor include: The Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Air Medal.
