Corpsman Up Night- CHC �Doc� Joe Dodge, US Navy
Pensacola, Fla. � The Cpl. J.R. Spears Detachment of the Marine Corps League announces the Annual Heroes Among Us speaker series event for July 28th, 2022 with our Guest of Honor CHC �Doc� Joe Dodge, US Navy (Ret).
CHC Dodge served our nation for 23 years as a Corpsman in the United States Navy including a number of years with the Fleet Marine Force (FMF). As the �Doc� assigned to the Recon Battalion of the 24th MEU he deployed to the Kurdish area of Iraq following Operation Desert Storm. Saddam Hussein had previously used poison gas on the Kurdish people and after Operation Desert Storm he continued to make ominous threats against the Kurds. Therefore, elements of the 24th MEU, along with other U.S. and allied forces, were mobilized to complete a mission of mercy on behalf of the Kurdish people in Turkey and northern Iraq. During Operation Provide Comfort, the MEU delivered food, supplies and medicine and transported Kurds to "safe havens" at specially constructed temporary tent cities. Knowing Saddam Hussein�s previous use of poison gas Doc Hodge was specifically assigned to the MEU Recon Battalion after special Chemical and Biological warfare training.
Admission is free and open to the public, although donations will be accepted for the Heroes Among Us Fund to help veterans in need.
